Advice on Pet Food For Your Dog

October 13, 2009
Posted in Pet Food — Written by Jamie

You may have heard how important it is to keep your pets happy and active. In order to maintain the health of pets, it is essential to feed them with healthy and nutritious pet food. If you have a dog, learn about when to feed him, what to feed him and where to feed him.

Every animal has different dietary requirements- this is especially true for dogs. Dogs need to live a strong and healthy life and for this they require a nourishing diet. Diets should be rich in proteins with a blend of carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins.

What to feed?
Canned and semi moist pet food are designed to be very beneficial for your dog. Ensure that you purchase dog food that is specially formulated according to the type and age of your dog. Semi moist food is better than canned food due to its lower water content. Also, serving your dog with dry pet food will keep its gums and teeth healthy and helps to improve digestion.

How much to feed?
Do not worry about when and how to feed your dog. Little puppies often feel hungry, so feed them four to fives times a day. When they reach the age of four months, reduce this to three meals a day. At the age of nine months, reduce the meals to two meals per day- one in the morning and the other in the evening. You can serve your dog with a morning snack kibble.

When to feed?
You should avoid over feeding your dog as they all have different calorie requirements, depending on their age and how active they are. Feed your dog in a corner where it can eat alone, away from the rest of the family.

These tips will ensure healthy living for your dogs. You can also seek advice from your local veterinarian on pet care and pet food.
